Inban Plate – Tanbo
Two pairs of small plates with organic outlines form the backdrop for graphic landscapes composed of silhouettes and superimposed lines, either human-made or natural. These pieces form a travel diary, conceived as an inventory of things seen, presented as they are, leaving room for interpretation.
This collection, based on sketches made during a residency in Arita and Hasami, where Japanese porcelain is produced, reflects the discoveries made by French artist Jochen Gerner during his first trip to Japan. Each drawing, first printed on washi paper, is meticulously transferred to the porcelain biscuit using a moistened brush. This handmade process, reminiscent of woodblock printing, called Inban, gives each piece subtle variations in the thickness and hue of the motifs, making each one unique.
