Set of two Koinobori plush toys, ‘magoi’ (blue carp) and ‘higoi’ (red carp), presented in an illustrated cardboard case. Koinobori carps symbolise the celebration of Kodomo no hi, or Children’s Day. These plush toys, made by the Shinkougei workshop in the town of Takayama in Gifu Prefecture, are decorated using traditional woodblock printing techniques, after which the fabric is steamed at high temperature, sewn and stuffed with rice husks.
