Rice straw grown in Miyazaki prefecture and delicately hand-woven by the artisans of the Takubo workshop. Located in Hinokage, a small village near Takachiho, a place renowned for its natural sites and its myths and legends, this is the first Japanese atelier entirely dedicated to making traditional decorations from rice straw.

The crane and turtle motif is a recurring theme in Japanese iconography, symbolising prosperity and longevity for 1,000 and 10,000 years respectively. Rice straw changes and turns yellow with time, light and humidity.
