The Japanese apron reinvented by international illustrators
Illustrated by Australian artist Grace Lee, this limited edition maekake apron is inspired by the workshops of Anything, which manufactures these traditional garments in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture.
Worn by Japanese shopkeepers, restaurateurs and brewers since the Edo period, maekake aprons (literally, “worn in front of oneself”) protect the body and tighten the hip bones. Each piece is made using traditional methods and woven using looms produced by Toyota over 100 years ago.
