Designed by French artist Séverin Millet, this series of modern Kokeshi is made in Naruko Onsen by the Sakurai family, who have specialised in making these iconic Japanese dolls for 6 generations. Produced by Dejima, they are Sakurai’s first work with an international artist.

Kokeshi are wooden dolls produced in the Tohoku region of northern Japan by artisans who have been specialising in making them over the years. Traditionally given to children to wish them good health, they are made from local wood, turned and delicately hand-painted according to the individual style of each artisan.
